Cayo Largo del Sur, commonly known as Cayo Largo, is a small island located in the Caribbean Sea, at the eastern end of the Archipelago of the Canarreos. It is part of the Isla de la Juventud municipality, whose capital, Nueva Gerona, is 135 kilometers away. The island covers an area of 37.5 km\u00b2 and stretches about 25 kilometers long, almost entirely made up of beaches.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The island has a karstic and coral origin, with coastal vegetation in the central and southern parts and mangroves in the northern coast, where channels and lagoons with rich marine life can be found. It remains mostly in its natural state and is well-preserved. Cayo Largo has around 20 kilometers of fine white sandy beaches with crystal-clear waters, some of which are almost untouched, making them the island’s main tourist attraction.<\/p>

The fauna is rich, especially in bird and fish species, but the most notable are the iguanas. Despite their intimidating appearance, they are harmless, as are most animals on the island and in Cuba in general.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The only way to reach Cayo Largo del Sur is by plane. Day trips are organized from Havana or Varadero, including flights and a catamaran excursion to Playa Sirena and Cayo Iguana. The only option to travel from Havana to Cayo Largo del Sur is by flying with Aero Gaviota. These flights are not daily and do not have a fixed schedule.
